Colour-tuning of the chlorophyll absorption spectrum increases the range of light wavelengths that green plants can absorb for use in photosynthesis. In our article first-principles time-dependent density functional theory was to calculate the absorption spectra of the complete 7000-atom chlorophyll network from the light harvesting complex LHC-II and showed that the flow of excitation energy towards the photosynthetic apparatus in the leaf is a result of this colour-tuning effect.

Rui gave two seminars on proliferation regulation in angiogenesis at the Federal University of Pelotas and at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul on the 1st and 2nd of April respectively.

Maurício has sucessfully defended his thesis. Congratulations. He has also been awarded a CNPq grant to do his PhD in our group at Coimbra on modeling tumor metastasis. Congratulations!

Apresentação Intercalar Eng. Biomédica

On June 6th Susete and António will present posters describing their ongoing work at the Apresentação Intercalar dos Projectos de Engenharia Biomédica at the Physics Department. The poster titles are "Morphology of Vascular Networks – a computational study" and "Influence of Tissue Mechanics on Blood Vessel Growth", respectively.
